Are there any suggestions for changes to defensive scoring that apply to all players? Maybe a new scoring category or point bonuses? Here's a few things I've been thinking about:
- when an offensive player fumbles and recovers it himself (including mishandled snaps for a QB), they get the same points as you would for a defensive player recovering a fumble. I once had Russell Wilson credited for 3 fumble recoveries in a single game because he and his center weren't on the same page. If there's no change of possession, points should not be awarded for this sort of thing, or at the very least it should be worth less for an offensive player.
- Return yards. When a defensive player recovers a fumble or gets an interception, they often run with it and leave the offense in a better position. Should they get points for advancing the ball (closer to 20 yards/point than 10).
- When a team misses a 2 point conversion, the defense can return it via fumble recovery or interception. It's uncommon, but we saw one last year (I believe Stefone Anthony was the first to score this way). If it's an option in scoring, I will add it. But what point value should it have? Closer to a safety or defensive touchdown?
- I really want to try positional scoring for defense. I made a mention of this in the DL thread, but maybe DL get more points per tackle than the other positions. Interceptions worth more for DL and LB, sacks woth more for DBs... there's a lot of possibilities.
Let me know what you think we should do to improve defensive scoring.
