How it works now:
Offseason
- designated Free Agency periods before and after the rookie draft (dates and times to be announced)
- transactions done on a first come, first served basis
- unlimited transactions
Regular Season & Playoffs
- free agents added using waiver priority (continuous rolling list)
- unlimited transactions
I feel like this needs a bit of tweaking. A lot of owners (myself included, at times) were constantly adding and dropping throughout the season, and it felt a lot like we were playing in a redraft league with bigger rosters. Besides the ultimate goal of winning a championship, dynasty is nothing like redraft. It's a game of patience, rewarding those that do their research and make smart moves. I don't think the league as it is now reflects that, so here's my proposal to change that:
Offseason
same as before, unlimited transactions on a first come first served basis.
Regular Season & Playoffs
Still use waivers, but include a transaction cap. I'm thinking something in the 15-20 range for the season. That way you can still make moves in season for bye weeks and players on IR, but you'll have to be smarter about who you add and who you drop. If you want to go all out on transactions, they would need to be done before the start of the season.
Alternate idea:
We also have the option to do blind bid auctions for free agents. For those that don't know what that is, teams are given a certain amount of money to bid with. At the end of the week you enter a dollar amount and bid on the player you want to add, and the person that is willing to pay the most gets the player. You can't see anyone's bid other than your own, so you have to pick your spots more carefully so you don't run out of cash mid-season. Your only limitation is how much you're willing to spend.
So what do you guys think? Should a transaction cap be introduced? Free agent bidding? Keep things as is?
